Wimbledon 2017: Venus Williams Shows Emotions Talking About Accident In Which A Man Died
Venus Williams broke down in tears as she was questioned by reporters about a Florida car crash in which a man died.
The 37-year-old spoke after a 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 win over Elise Mertens in the first round at Wimbledon.

Asked whether she would like to expand on her feelings following a car crash last month that resulted in the death of 78-year-old Jerome Barson, Williams’ eyes welled up after a quick response and she walked away.
“There are really no words to describe, like, how devastating and — yeah,” Williams said. “I’m completely speechless. It’s just — yeah, I mean, I’m just …”
She then began crying, and left the room to compose herself before returning to answer another couple of questions on the match.
Williams was not injured in the June 9 crash, but police in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, found her at fault. The family of Barson has opened a wrongful death lawsuit against Williams.
Earlier in the news conference, Williams said: “Tennis is still the love of my life. It gives me joy.
“Life, you can’t prepare for everything. I prepared for a lot of matches, tried to get ready for whatever my opponent will throw at you, but you can’t prepare for everything.
“I have no idea what tomorrow will bring. That’s all I can say about it. That’s what I’ve learned.”
Playing in her 20th Wimbledon, Williams needed five match points to secure the win. She next plays Wangs Qiang in Wednesday’s second-round match.
